Kotoko 80% done with appointing David Duncan as new coach

Asante Kotoko are 80 percent through to name David Duncan as their next substantive coach, Sportscrusader.com can confirm.

The Ghana Premier League champions are in advanced talks with Duncan, who last coached rivals, Hearts of Oak in the Ghana Premier League.

Talks between the club’s board and Duncan were reported to have broken down over a perceived rift between the former AshGold trainer and sections of the Kotoko fans over comments made during his time with Hearts considered as unsavoury.

The uncertain future of incumbent coach Mas-Ud Dramani who has been directed to proceed on leave is also attributed to be one of the reasons for the stalled talks with Duncan.

But reliable information gathered by Sportscrusader.com indicates that discussions have moved very fast over the past few days and are now 80 percent complete.

Duncan is expected to be in Kumasi sometime in the coming week to conclude talks with the club’s top hierarchy.

The 51-year-old is considered as one of the sharpest football brains in Ghana mainly for his ability to maintain discipline, improve attitude to work, motivate players and his impeccable reading of the game.

He coached Great Olympics after playing for the Accra-based club in a less flamboyant playing career.

Duncan went on to coach Sekondi Hasaacas, the Ghana U17 national team and then AshantiGold.

He has also coached Free State Stars in South Africa.
