Kotoko Bury Arsenal

Tue, 26 Aug 2008 Source: --

Kumasi Asante Kotoko opened the defence of their GHALCA Top Four crown on a flashy fashion when they easily annihilated impressive looking Berekum Arsenals 3-0. Two sublime goals from Kojo Poku and Eric Bekoe, via a solo effort and a magnificent free-kick respectively, as well as a goal mouth scramble goal by Ofosu Amoah helped Kotoko to destroy their opponents.

Though Kotoko carried the day, they did not outplay Arsenal who gave the Porcupine Warriors a good run for their money in the opening stages. Arsenal who came into the game with the intention to at least snatch a point, started well and threatened Kotoko’s goal area on several occasions but could not find the net.

Kotoko who barely survived for the most part of the first half, came into the picture in the latter stages, punishing Arsenal by taking the lead via Ofosu Amoah after a goal-mouth scramble. Before Arsenal could get back their rhythm after the break, Kotoko increased their lead when Kojo Poku single-handedly dribbled the entire defencemen of Arsenal before beautifully slotting the ball home, past the onrushing goalkeeper in the 52nd minute.

Then on, the Champions started dictating the pace, especially from midfield where Kufuor and Oduro operated to the delight of the home fans, but they could not add to their tally. When everybody was expecting the referee to blast his whistle to bring proceedings to an end, Tormentor-In-Chief Eric Bekoe added his name to the scoring sheet when he intelligently curled the ball into the net from a free-kick outside the box to help Kotoko win 3-0.
