Kotoko Eliminated From Champions League

Asante Kotoko failed to make it to the next stage of the CAF/MTN Champions League after losing away on penalties to Gambian side, Port Authority, in Banjul last Saturday.

The Porcupine Warriors lost 4-2 during the spot kicks after the Gambians forced the game into tie-breaking penalties, scoring a vital 80th minute goal to win 1-0 at the end of regulation time.

Kotoko won the first leg match 1-0 at Obuasi last week to put the aggregate score at 1-1 before the home side triumphed on penalties.

Port Authority snatched the much needed equaliser after a misunderstanding between Kotoko goalkeeper Isaac Amoako and defender Dan Acquah allowed a Gambian player to slot the ball into the post.

During the spot kicks, Michael Ofosu-Appiah and Dan Acquah scored for Kotoko but Douglas Nkrumah and Osei Kwame Jnr. had their kicks saved, with Port Authority scoring all their kicks.

Kotoko, twice winners of Africa’s premier club competition, reached the group stage of the Champions League last year.
