Accra, April 10 - Kumasi Asante Kotoko on Sunday posted a 5-4 victory on penalties over Obuasi-based AshantiGold to clinch the 2005 One Touch Gala competition held at the Ohene Djan Sports Stadium in Accra.

Regulation time produced no goal.

Kotoko who badly needed victory to please their expectant supporters converted their kicks through skipper Godfried Yeboah, Kofi Sammy, Francis Akuafo, Ali Quadrago, Osei Ababio whilst Ashgold's goalkeeper Isaac Amoako saved Kenneth Ababio's kick.

Skipper Kofi Amoako, Shaibu Yakubu, Isaac Amoako and Daniel Asamoah scored for Ashgold whilst Joseph Jackson and Kwaku Wiafie wasted theirs.

Both teams produced a great game that kept the supporters sitting on tender-hooks during the first session with aggressive but cautious play spiced with admirable flair and pace.

In between play, it was Kotoko's new sensation, Nasiru Ghani who was gifted on the fifth minute mark when he was left unmarked in the Ashgolds vital area only to be denied the opportunity to score with an over elaboration.

Then came the turn of Ashgolds's skilful Francis Akuafo who tore the defence of the victors into shreds only to shoot wide to the amazement of the sizable supporters at the arena.

With the players gripping with fatigue, both teams barely created chances with the game reduced to a midfield action with occasional approaches towards goal after the recess.

After well-rested William Thompson of Kotoko scooped the ball off the line in the dying embers of the game to deny the losers the opener, it became obvious that it was Ashgold's amazing composure that made the only difference and separated the two sides as the pendulum of action tilted from one end to the other.

Both teams struggled in search of the winner, which proved elusive until referee Ebenezer Ferguson brought proceedings to a close to usher in the penalty shoot-out that decided the eventual winner.
