Kotoko chairman Dr Kwame Kyei has threatened to resign after a nasty clash with the club's supporters' chief over a dispute regarding a sponsorship deal from an alcoholic beverage firm, Kumasi-based Fox FM has reported.

Dr Kyei wants the club's supporters chairman Kwaku Amponsah, nicknamed 'K5' sacked for usurping his powers to accept a commercial partnership with a company in the alcohol industry.

The National Circles National Circles Council (NCC) have reportedly signed a bumper sponsorship deal with indigenous alcoholic beverage firm Happyman Bitters - a move which has infuriated the club's top hierarchy.

Sources say the alcoholic firm turned to the supporters wing after the club's chairman Dr Kwame Kyei rejected their offer to sponsor the club.

The club's top officials and Executives of the National Circles Council are at a loggerhead amid threat of resignation by Dr Kyei if the deal is not abrogated.

A meeting to resolve the impasse turned nasty after Dr Kwame Kyei clashed with the NCC's top hierarchy, media reports in Kumasi have claimed.

"I don't think that a brand like Kotoko can associate itself with alcohol, this is something I and Dr Kyei have told the supporters leadership because they have no right and if they want to partner any company, Dr Kyei has told them it should be through the management and we shouldn't forget we have a deal with MTN which involves the NCC," Kotoko lawyer Kwame Boafo is quoted by Kumasi-based Nhyira FM

The business mogul is livid with the action of the club's supporters' chief, nicknamed K5' and wants him removed from office.

Kotoko are looking at streams of alternative funding ahead of their involvement in the CAF Confederation Cup next year.

But it appears alcoholic firms will have no place in Kumasi as the two parties clashed over Happyman Bitters partnership with the Ghanaian giants.
