Accra, Jan. 2, GNA - In what many Hearts fans including the playing body and management members expected to be a total massacre of their arch rivals, Kumasi Asante Kotoko in the first leg finals of the Confederations Cup Competition at the Ohene Djan Stadium in Accra on Sunday, the Phobians at the end rather went home meditating over their inability to achieve their desired target.
Worse of it all, the Phobians had to fight from a goal down before ending the match one all after Louis Agyeman had trapped a ball in front of the Kotoko defence before un-leashing a low drive past George Owu in the dying minutes of the game to cancel Michael Osei's rebound in the 60th minute.
Fans of Hearts after the match could not move out of the stands as they discussed among themselves the day's events whilst some meditated over what really went wrong with their team.
Whilst some believed that the coach, Sir Cecil Attuquayefio did not make the right selection for the game, others put the blame on some particular players whom they thought did not perform to their expectation.
The disappointed fans of Hearts foresee a tough a battle in Kumasi during the second and wondered whether they can still maintain their championship aspirations.
Most of the fans were divided over their chances in the second leg with some believing that they can rekindle history in Kumasi by putting up an impressive performance whilst others doubted their chances.
The vociferous fans of Kotoko had just one thing to say, "aha mponi na Oseikrom" literally meaning that its even at the back yard of Hearts that they have made it, how much more Oseikrom- Kumasi, their home ground.
Many of the fans believe the right opportunity has presented itself for them to make amends after failing to win the cup in 2002. The fans of Kotoko were in a jubilant mood as they marched to their various homes after the match while others blamed the players for failing to take total control of the game by burying the Phobians. The second leg is fixed for Sunday, January 9, at the Kumasi Sports stadium.
