Accra, Nov 27, GNA - Newly crowned GT Premier League Champions, Kumasi Asante Kotoko finally found a way past 'stubborn Power FC' when they beat them 2-1 in a special friendly match played at the Ohene Djan sport stadium in Accra on Sunday.
Kotoko who split the points in both league matches against Power in the just ended GT Premier League season, came into the match determined to put their stubborn opponents at their rightful place once and for all.
And with this at the back of their minds, Kotoko started the match that was arranged to showcase their league trophy to the Accra fans on a fast note, playing as if their very lives depended on the outcome of the results.
In the process, they pushed Power to their own half and succeeded in creating a lot of scoring chances but which were all wasted. Power, as they frequently do in their matches against Kotoko, sat back and socked all the early pressure and tried to sting the Porcupine Warriors with a few breaks that came their way.
Try as Kotoko did the early goal they sought for never came their way for the referee to send both teams to the dressing room goalless at the first of first half.
Cheered on by the vociferous fans, Kotoko came in from the break a rejuvenated side and as early as the 59th minute they came close but John Cudjoe could not finish off his driving run from deep inside the midfield.
Both teams made a couple of substitutions which turned to work better in Power's favour, as they took the lead courtesy a snap shot by Francis Coffie, which deceived the goalkeeper and rebounded off the woodwork before rolling into the net in the 62nd minute to silence the Kotoko fans.
Not prepared to take the Power's taunts, Kotoko redoubled their effort and drew level in the 67th minute through Nana Arhin Duah who sneaked behind the offside trap of Power's back line to place his shot into the blind side of Power's substitute goalkeeper Lawrence Quartey into the net.
Kotoko from then stepped on the accelerator for the winning goal, which proved elusive till the dying embers of the game when substitute Ali Oudragou headed in a cross from Nana Arhin Duah into the post for the winner on the stroke of full time. 27 Nov 05
