Former Asante Kotoko/Tema Youth trainer, Isaac Opeele Boateng, has raised concerns over the Porcupine Warriors’ championship status.

The coach cum soccer analyst indicated that the reigning league champions had a field’s day in the season as a result of the tender opposition from the teams that pursued them on the standings.

He revealed that the competition became a ‘no contest’ when management of Accra Hearts of Oak asked Coach David Duncan to lay down his tools.

At the time of Duncan’s departure, the point-difference between the two bitterest rivals, Hearts and Kotoko was just one, and according to Opeele, it was indicative of a keenly-contested race.

The former Black Starlets Assistant Coach mentioned that Hearts’ inability to maintain the slender point difference, allowing Kotoko to open a 12-point lead handed the title to the ultimate winners.

“I think Kotoko are not the true champions of the league. They had no stiff opposition after Duncan left. There was no pressure on them to go the extra mile because they were comfortable,” he said in an interview.

Kotoko finished the league amassing 55 points, with Heart of Lions trailing with 47 points.
