Kotoko wants share of Osei's onward transfer fee

Accra, July 7, GNA - The Interim Management Team (IMT) of Kumasi Asante Kotoko has written to Dansoman based Liberty Professional asking for the reopening of the transfer agreement of their former player, Michael Osei with the view of inserting a clause which would guarantee them a share of the future onward transfer fee of the player.

In an interview with the GNA Sport in Accra, a member of the IMT Mr Kwabina Kesse said the convention, which is nothing new in Ghana soccer, was inadvertently left out of the agreement when Osei was swapped for Liberty's Osei Akoto at the start of the season.

He said they stumbled on this costly omission recently after they went through the files they inherited from the previous administration headed by Major Yaw Lawson (rtd).

Mr Kesse said they have thence written to the Management of Liberty to reopen the transfer agreement so that the clause could be inserted to enable Kotoko to benefit from the player as they had played an integral part in his development.

He said Kotoko would be demanding that Liberty granted them 40 per cent of the future transfer fee of the player when they meet. Asked whether the IMT had contacted the previous administration to know why such an important clause was left out of the transfer agreement, the IMT member said for now, their most important concern was to get the anomaly rectified.

Michael Osei joined Kotoko from Cape Coast Dwarfs in 2000 during the administration of Mr Herbert Mensah after his stellar performance for the national Under-17 team Black Starlet during the World Under-17 tournament in New Zealand.
