The 2014 Ghana FA Cup sensation says he will fight to get first team spot at his club over his captain who currently occupies the position

AIK Fotboll defender Patrick Kpozo says he is yet to make a competitive topflight appearance due to a 'fight' with the club’s captain over the left-back spot.

The 18-year-old joined the Swedish side in July from Ghanaian outfit Inter Allies, having signed a pre-contractual agreement with the club in February, but has struggled to make a bow in the Allsvenskan.

“It has been tough because the guy [Nils-Eric Johansson] playing my position is the captain and moreover a Swedish,” Kpozo told Goal.

“It’s very difficult to move him from that position. But soon, I am going to because he’s getting old [35] with time.

“I am sure I am going to play my first game soon. I am training hard to be in the team but it’s not going to come easy.

“I think by next season, I am going to make my name over here. I am going to improve and they all believe in me.”

Among AIK’s list of established stars is 20-year-old Ghanaian Ebenezer Ofori, who joined the club in 2013 from New Edubiase. Kpozo says Ofori has been helping him to settle in his new environment.

“Ebenezer is now a big [star] in Sweden and everyone is talking about him,” Kpozo continued.

“Since I came to Sweden, he has taken me as his brother and helps me a lot in everything I do.

“He’s shown me places and how the club runs, and I am very happy to be with him.

“I am coping well and so happy to be here.”

Kpozo was a member of the Ghana squad that participated in the 2015 Fifa U20 World Cup in New Zealand.
