Ghana League Clubs Association (Ghalca) chairman Cudjoe Fianoo has given his reasons for turning down government's appointment to serve on a five-man Interim Management Committee for football.

The sport has been brought to a halt in the West African nation following recent screening of an investigative documentary which exposed corrupt and match-fixing activities of top officials and referees of the football association.

The scandal has led to the resignation of FA boss Kwesi Nyantakyi, amid government's steps to overhaul the body for a new structure.

“Something wasn’t right with the steps government was taking to restore our game," Fianoo told Sikka FM.

"As chairman of the Ghalca, I knew very well Fifa wouldn’t entertain the 5-man committee. I couldn’t be part of an exercise I knew would be futile.

”Again, it would have been an act of betrayal to accept the appointment.

"Had government spoken to Ghalca to get them a rep onto the committee and Ghalca decided to choose me, it would have been a bit different."

Reports say Fianoo was "pressured" by Ghalca to reject the appointment after government turned down Ghalca's request to promptly organize congress to elect new leaders for the FA.

Afcon 2008 Local Organizing Committee chairman Kofi Amoah, former Black Stars playmaker Abedi Ayew 'Pele', ex-national star Osei Kofi and renowned lawyer and journalist Eva Okyere are the other four members of the committee.

The set-up is expected to hold meetings with Fifa and Caf in the coming days over Ghana's football situation.
