Ghanaian footballers have begun to honour the memory of the late Black Stars fitness coach, Romeo Ricky Roy, who passed away on Sunday, April 28, 2024.
The first to convey their astonishment at the news were Black Stars players including Antoine Semenyo, Mohammed Salisu, and Patrick Kpozo.
Team captain Andre Ayew, along with Mubarak Wakaso, Mohammed Kudus, Kamaldeen Sulemana, Gideon Mensah, Fatawu Issahaku, and many others, followed suit, offering heartfelt tributes to the departed coach.
While some players have offered prayers for Roy's peaceful repose, others have extended their sympathies to his grieving family.
Romeo Ricky Roy served as the Black Stars' fitness coach and also as a personal trainer to several team members.
He was first appointed to the Black Stars' support staff in 2021 during Milovan Rajevac's second tenure as head coach.
His tenure included participation as the team's trainer at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar and the subsequent Africa Cup of Nations held in Ivory Coast.
Roy was also part of the coaching team for the Division One League club, Vision FC.
Among the players he trained personally were Baba Rahman, Edmund Addo, among others.
