Popular traditional priest, Nana Kwaku Bonsam, has cautioned Black Stars player Mohammed Kudus to avoid wearing the number 10 jersey in the team if he wants to excel in his footballing career.
According to him, the Black Stars number 10 jersey carries some spiritual influence that could negatively affect the player's performance if not aligned.
The traditional priest admonished the West Ham United attacker to desist from wearing the Black Stars number 10 jersey to safeguard his career from dipping prematurely.
Speaking in an interview with Accra FM, Kwaku Bonsam noted that Kudus wearing other jersey numbers would not undermine his impact on the team.
“The number 10 jersey should not have been given to Kudus because it has a lot of spiritual implications. Any player who wears the jersey is likely to decline in performance. If a player wants to excel with the Black Stars, they should not touch the number 10 jersey.
"Regardless of the jersey number, one can be a captain, so I would advise him to stop wearing it and take the older number if he wants to thrive in football,” he said in Twi.
Meanwhile, Kudus failed to register a goal or an assist in the two games the Black Stars played against Sudan in the qualifiers for the 2025 African Cup of Nations while wearing the number 10 jersey.
After four matches played, Ghana are third in Group F with two points, Sudan are in second place with seven points, while Angola leads with twelve points.
The Black Stars will travel to face Angola and play the last match against Niger in Ghana in November 2024.
