Ghana and Portland Timbers goalkeeper Adams Kwarasey would be out of action for at least four weeks due to injury, his club has announced.

The 28-year-old suffered an injury relapse in his side’s 3-1 victory over San Jose Earthquakes on Saturday, and was replaced by Jake Gleeson at the Providence Park after 50 minutes.

He has been left out of the club’s squad for their weekend's clash with New England Revolution in Major League Soccer.

“Adams Kwarasey tore a ligament in his finger after getting it caught in the turf at Providence Park while picking up the ball after a shot from San Jose," head coach Caleb Potters told the club's website.

"Though he will not need surgery, he must wear a splint on his injured finger.

“You never like injuries, but we feel like we have a really capable goalkeeper in Jake Gleeson. Obviously, he played in the playoffs last year in a pressure game versus Vancouver and came into this game (against San Jose) and we didn’t miss a beat,” he added.

Last season, Kwarasey helped Timbers to win their first league title, saving a penalty and scoring the match-winner in the play-offs.
