Kwasi Appiah hints at handing K.P Boateng Ghana call up in future

Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah says he is ready to hand Sassuolo midfielder Kevin-Prince Boateng another call up after a four-year absence from international duties.

The 31-year-old and Sulley Muntari were sacked from the Black Stars camp during the 2014 Fifa World Cup after the duo were accused of masterminding agitations for players’ appearance fees to be paid before the final group game against Portugal.

The situation prompted the Ghanaian government to emplane over $4 million to Brazil while the duo were expelled from camp and subsequently banned from the national team.

However, Boateng is yet to admit his mistakes or apologize unlike Muntari who did in 2016.

"Kevin-Prince Boateng is a Ghanaian and has been playing well for Sassuolo this season so I will hope to hand him a call up one day but there is a condition," Appiah told Nhyira FM.

"After the 2014 Fifa World Cup, the Commission of Inquiry set up by the government recommended that he and Sulley Muntari must publicly apologise for their role in the debacle.

"Muntari has done his part and it's left with Boateng so whenever he writes or publicly apologise to the country, he will be considered," he added.

Appiah also insisted that the friendly game against Ghana Premier League giants Asante Kotoko following the cancellation of the Afcon qualifier with Sierra Leone will be a good exercise for his squad.

"Our next game in the Afcon qualifiers is against Ethiopia in November so we should prepare for it and playing a friendly before that game is the best," he said.

"Some of the players are new in the team and others are coming back after a long layoff so it is important we at least get more matches for them to showcase what they have in store. It's good for me as a coach and the playing body to assess the players," he added.
