Former Vice President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), George Afriyie, believes that Kwasi Appiah may consider coaching the Black Stars again in the future.

Afriyie's remarks follow Sudan's recent 2-0 victory over Ghana in the second leg of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers, which took place on Tuesday at the Martyrs of February Stadium in Libya.

The Sudanese now coached by Appiah, held the Black Stars to a goalless draw in the first leg of the tie at Accra Sports Stadium.

With the win, Sudan is now well-positioned to qualify for the AFCON tournament, set to be hosted in Morocco next year. They currently sit second in Group F with seven points.

Commenting on Appiah’s performance as the head coach of the Sudanese national team, George Afriyie noted that the former Black Stars coach is looking to enhance his coaching credentials by leading Sudan to the continent’s prestigious tournament and aiming for a spot in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be held across the USA, Canada, and Mexico.

Afriyie added that if the Black Stars’ coaching position becomes available in the future, Appiah might be willing to return for a third stint.

"Kwasi Appiah wants to better his CV by qualifying for the Africa Cup of Nations and the World Cup, and someday, when the Black Stars coaching position is vacant, he will be considered," he told Asempa FM.

Currently, Sudan lead Group B in the World Cup qualifiers with 10 points, remaining undefeated so far.

The team will conclude their AFCON qualifying campaign next month with matches against Niger and Angola before shifting focus to the World Cup qualifiers in March next year.
