Former GFA Chairman Ben Koufie is urging unflinching support for national team helmsman Kwesi Appiah insisting that the media especially have the power to make the man nicknamed Mayele successful or otherwise.

Appiah’s side beat Lesotho comprehensively, 7-0, in his first game in charge but they have struggled in subsequent matches. Mr. Koufie is however adamant Kwesi Appiah is the right man for the job.

“The media plays a key role in the success of the coach. If he succeeds, then it means the media supported him. If he doesn’t succeed, they pulled him down.

“I’m not saying that the media shouldn’t say or write the truth, I’m saying you should encourage him and don’t publish any reports that seek to speak ill of the coach,” Ben Koufie cautioned.

The 80 year old FIFA and CAF instructor who launched his book on football coaching in Accra, explained: “I want you to know that football is a tricky game, a game of uncertainties. Anything can happen at anytime.

“It’s a very difficult job, I know all the pressure because I have been in this job before. Kwesi is a good coach, he doesn’t rush, he is calm and doesn’t say much. “Should he fail, reassure him it was just one failure and one loss doesn’t compare to ten wins.”
