Ghana coach James Kwesi Appiah has revealed the final group game of the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Egypt was meant to be a build up exercise for the future.
Egypt held Ghana to a 1-1 draw in Cape Coast on Sunday after Mohammed Sikabala had opened the scoring for the Pharaoh’s on the hour mark before Edwin Gyasi equalized with a brilliant strike three minutes later.
Speaking to the press after the game, head coach Kwesi Appiah confirmed the game was supposed to be used to build a formidable team for 2019 since they were already out of contention for a place in Russia.
"We knew we were already out of the race to qualify for the world cup so I wanted to give other players the opportunity to see what they can offer my new team for 2019." He said.
