Sudan head coach Kwesi Appiah has disclosed that his players have been inspired to qualify for the 2026 World Cup sharing his experience of coaching at the mundial with them.

Coach Kwesi Appiah became the first African coach to lead a team at the World Cup in 2014 with Ghana.

Under his supervision, Ghana exited the tournament at the group stages but the Black Stars were able to put up a decent performance being the only team to draw with Germany who eventually won the World Cup in Brazil.

Kwesi Appiah who has led Sudan to three wins and one draw in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers disclosed on FIFA TV that his players asked him to share his experience at the World Cup.

“They ask me about the atmosphere during this competition, and if it’s different to how it appears on television. I tell them that I firmly believe they’re capable of qualifying for the World Cup. That pushes them to fight in every game,” he told FIFA.

With only two professional players playing regularly at the club level, Sudan has amassed 10 points and led Senegal with 2 points in Group B.
