Kwesi Nyantaki reveals he lacks the funds to sue UK newspaper

Ghana FA President Kwesi Nyantakyi has revealed he has been unable to go ahead with his intention to sue UK newspaper the Daily Telegraph over claims he agreed to fix matches of the Black Stars because he lacks the funds to undertake the venture.

The Daily Telegraph made these allegations during the 2014 World Cup following a joint undercover investigation by the paper and Channel 4 programme Dispatches.

Nyantakyi in excerpts of a video footage was captured in a meeting with a football agent Christopher Forsythe and a Ghana FA official Nana Kwame Nketia discussing arranging friendly matches for the Black Stars, Ghana’s senior national team.

Further allegations by the investigations claimed Nyantakyi agreed to arrangements to bribe GFA executives into the signing of a contract to award the rights of arranging friendly matches to a company even though this evidence is not captures on tape.

Nyantakyi who is a member of the CAF Executive Committee has since refuted these allegations and had served notice of his intention to sue the UK media firms to clear his name.

But the GFA President says he has been unable to raise the required amount needed to prosecute the case.

“I went to London to meet with lawyers in my bid to prosecute this case but I must admit I have been unable to meet the financial demands of lawyers to start prosecution,” he said.

“The lawyers charged a fee which I am not currently in the position to pay.”

Nyantakyi however insists he remains committed to clearing his name through the law courts and will start legal proceedings against the firms once he raises the needed resources.

“I am looking for the money and I am sure within the time frame to prosecute this case, once I come up with the money I will sue them,” he added.
