The decision by world football governing body – FIFA, to ban former President of the Ghana Football Association Kwesi Nyantakyi from all football-related activities will expire this week.
The former industrious football administrator had his 13-year period of leadership as Ghana FA President truncated by FIFA with the ban following allegations of breaching the code of ethics of the football governing body.
The decision by the adjudicatory chamber of the Ethics Committee restricted the former influential FIFA Council member from all football activities for a period of 90 days which started on June 8, 2018.
The 90-day period expires on Saturday, 8th September to make way for FIFA’s final decision on the former CAF 1st Vice President.
FIFA indicated in the statement issued on 8th June that the period of the ban could be extended for another 45 days if they are unsatisfied with the findings of their investigations.
But sources close to the world football governing body have hinted that they are satisfied with the findings and a final decision should be expected soon.
The ban on Kwesi Nyantakyi was announced two days after an investigative video documentary by controversial journalist Anas Armeyaw Anas was released.
In the said documentary, the former Ghana FA capo was captured receiving some cash alleged to be a gift which is a violation of FIFA’s code of ethics.
The claim that the money given to Kwesi Nyantakyi was a gift has strongly been opposed by the indignant football technocrat who insists the money was a refund of his travel expenses after the controversial journalist and his investigative team posed as investors who expressed interest in sponsoring the Ghana Premier League to lure him to Dubai where they held series of meetings.
It will be known after Saturday whether Nyantakyi, who is the owner of Ghana Premier League side Wa All Stars and an adored football administrator with unmatched experience in the industry, will be permitted to return to football by FIFA or not.
