Kumasi Asante Kotoko are brimming with confidence ahead of the 2nd leg CAF Confederation Cup game against Kenya side Kariobangi Sharks this afternoon at the Baba Yara stadium.
In the build-up to this game, Kotoko coach C.K Akonnor said he was happy with the performance of his side in the firsts leg goalless draw in Kenya last week, but has warned his players not to rest on the oars ahead of the crucial game.
Kotoko must beat Kariobangi Sharks by any margin to progress but a scoring draw for the visitors will eliminate the Porcupine Warriors.
Speaking after the first leg fixture last Saturday, Kotoko coach, C.K Akonnor reiterated the importance of avoiding complacency ahead of the second leg.
“We are satisfied with the result because we didn’t lose,” says Akonnor. "We could have won because we had chances to score. We came here to get a good result, meaning we can be satisfied with a draw or win.”
“I don’t want to be too selfish. This was an away match. We have to go back home, do a bit of homework and find a method to win the second leg.”
“We are not going to relax”, stressed Akonnor. “The target is to qualify for the next stage and we are going to work hard to achieve that.”
Kotoko are the only Ghanaian side participating in Africa inter-club competitions because of the status as reigning champions of the Ghana FA Cup.
