The University of Education, Winneba (UEW), has inaugurated 11-member Local Organizing Committee (LOC), for the up-coming 2016 24th Ghana Universities Sports Association (GUSA) Games, to be hosted by the University.
The Committee is headed by the Prof-Vice Chancellor of the UEW, Rev. Father Professor Anthony Afful-Broni.
Ten other sub-Committees were also inaugurated to facilitate the smooth organization of the games scheduled for January 2016.
They are Technical, Equipment and facilities, Accommodation, Publicity and Press, Medical and Environment, Protocol,
Entertainment and Refreshment, Games Secretariat, Transport, Finance and Sponsorship, Security and Catering sub-committees.
Inaugurating the Committees, Prof. Afful-Broni charged the members to use their connections, influence and lobbying skills to make a case for philanthropies to support UEW in developing its sporting facilities, especially the construction of an athletic oval to be used in competitions and training.
He said the selection of UEW to host the next GUSA Games was a good decision, especially considering the unique mandate of the institution and its role in producing teachers for all levels of the educational sector in Ghana.
Speaking on the role of UEW in developing sporting talents, the Pro-VC said that, the University had three major departments that currently teach Physical Education as a course.
