Accra, Nov. 25, GNA - Two Ghanaian match officials have been selected for the forthcoming West Africa Football Union (WAFU) U-20 tournament slated for Delta State, Nigeria from Friday, November 28 to Tuesday, December 9. The duo; all FIFA referees, Joseph Lamptey and assistant David Laryea will line up for the two-week fiesta which will draw 16 countries from the sub-region. Information gathered by GNA Sports has it that the two officials were selected based on their performance during recent international assignments. The two referees are expected to leave for Lagos on Tuesday en route to the Delta State, three clear days of the opening ceremony. Lamptey, 34 and an official of the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) has been the busiest Ghanaian referee this term having officiated in several international games ranging from World Cup qualifiers to African Club Championship. His recent game on the local scene was last Monday's premier league clash involving debutants Sporting Mirren and Hearts of Oak. Laryea, who is twelve-months younger than Lamptey has carved a niche for himself as one of the most respected assistant referees since his promotion to the elite class two years ago. Ghana's Black Satellites have been drawn in Group B alongside Gambia, Guinea and Senegal for the tourney, the brainchild of WAFU President, Dr Amos Adamu, who took over the reigns of the zonal body last April. 25 Nov. 08
