Lantey Addy became the new World Boxing Intercontinental Bantamweight Champion on Thursday morning when he won a unanimous points' decision over compatriot Isaac Nettey after 12 fierce rounds of pugilistic action.
Judge Fred Ghartey scored the bout 119-112, J.B. Owusu Ansah made it 116-115 and E.J.D. Osabutey scored it 120-111.
But the scorecards of the first and third judges belied the quality of the contest, which was fierce and action-packed.
Isaac showed no respect for his more experienced opponent, as he traded punches with him and tasked him in all departments of the contest.
Isaac had a better defence and ducked the sledges that Lantey tried to rely upon to end the fight.
There was nothing to choose between the two boxers in the first nine rounds as they stood toe-to-toe, hammering each other and kept the fans on their feet.
The fight began to slow down from the 10th round and Lantey appeared visibly tired as his legs wobbled.
Isaac decided to go in for the kill, but he unfortunately lacked the power punch to do so and allowed Lantey to recover at the break before the 11th.
The pendulum changed with Isaac becoming the more exhausted and Lantey took advantage of that to pummel him severally till the end of the fight.
