The Managing Director (MD) for Accra Hearts of Oak, Frederick Moore has emphasized that there is no need for football authorities in Ghana to cancel the Ghana Premier League season at this point in time.
The 2019/2020 football season in Ghana was suspended in March by the Ghana Football Association (GFA) in line with a directive from the government that indicated that all public gatherings including sporting activities had been banned as a precautionary measure against the spread of the Coronavirus (Covid-19) disease.
Several weeks later, the situation of the disease has far worsened with no clear indication of when it will get better. In line with that, there have been mixed reactions on what should happen to the football season.
Givin his take, Hearts of Oak MD Frederick Moore says it will be premature to think about totally cancel the league now.
“It will be premature to cancel the league season. Our season has to coincide with the other countries. We have to know when the pandemic will end before making any decisions. Should in case we terminate our league season and the other countries continue, then what will we do”, he told TV3.
The Ghana FA continues to engage major stakeholders this week and will make an announcement on the fate of the football season next week.
