Let's respect cyclists as road users, not obstacles - Joshua Quist

The Greater Accra Regional Director for the National Road Safety Authority, Joshua Quist, during the launch of the 2026 PRURide, made a strong call for cyclists to be treated as rightful road users.

Speaking to partners, stakeholders, and cycling enthusiasts at the launch, Quist stressed that road safety starts with a shift in mindset, one that sees cyclists not as a hindrance, but as fellow travellers with an equal claim to the road.

"Let's respect cyclists as road users, not obstacles."

His remarks reinforced the growing partnership between Prudential Life Insurance Ghana and the Ghana Road Safety Authority in the promotion of the safety of cyclists.

Through PRURide, the focus extends beyond the ride itself to building a culture of respect and shared responsibility on Accra's streets.

The launch brought together key partners, including the Ministry of Sports & Recreation, National Sports Authority, Ghana Cycling Federation, Ghana Olympic Committee, Ghana Police Service, RITE Sports Services and the University of Ghana Sports and Wellness Directorate. Their presence reflected the strong collaboration and shared commitment behind this year's PRURide initiative.

Ahead of the 2026 PRURide on Sunday, September 6, at Borteyman Highway, there will be a Fun Ride on Saturday, August 22, 2026, on the University of Ghana Campus starting from Diaspora Hall at 7am.

The event is expected to feature the Minister of Sports and Recreation, President of the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC), Director General of the National Sports Authority, CEO and staff of Prudential Life Insurance Ghana, corporate bodies, cycling enthusiasts, students and the general public.

With the support of the National Road Safety Authority and a growing network of national partners, PRURide 2026 is poised to be a significant moment for cycling, road safety and the future of cycling in Ghana.
