Liberty Industries, manufacturers of the locally manufactured Alcoholic beverage ‘Kpoo Keke’, has celebrated the newly crowned International Boxing Federation (IBF) World Lightweight Champion, Richard Oblitey Commey in grand style for lifting the flag of Ghana high.

Richard Oblitey Commey after knocking out Russia’s Isa Chaniev in the first round of the bout to become the new International Boxing Federation (IBF) world lightweight champion, decided to present his title to Liberty Industries.

Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday, Richard Commey stated that he decided to present his IBF World Lightweight Championship title to Liberty Industries because ‘Kpoo Keke’ is a brand that he likes and believes in, and he wants to champion it.

On his part, the Chief Executive Officer of Liberty Industries, Nii Botwe Laryea II commended Richard Commey on his victory and urged him to continue training hard and emulate the likes of Prof. Azumah Nelson, because there will be other contenders who will be coming after his title.

“In Ghana currently, football and boxing seem to be going down and those supposed to help promote the game are unable to do so because we like money more than the people who are working raise the sports. If today we have someone who has dedicated himself to achieve some of the things that his predecessors achieved in boxing, then we the elderly ones need to put our effort into it and help Ghana stand tall again in sports. We thank God almighty that our industrious son went into battle and has returned victorious. It is worth celebrating,” Nii Botwe Laryea II said.

He added, “We will also support you to go higher in the world of boxing. We want you to be great like Prof. Azumah Nelson so that when your name is mentioned, the whole world will recognize you as an industrious son of the game who comes from Ghana.”

Nii Botswe Laryea II also presented a sum of GHS 10,000, several boxes of ‘Kpoo Keke’ drinks, specially branded ‘Kpoo Keke’ shirts and a citation to Richard Commey.

In his response, IBF World Lightweight Champion expressed his gratitude to Nii Botswe Laryea II and his establishment for the kind gesture, and pledged to raise the flag of Ghana high through boxing, as he aims for higher titles.

General Manager for Liberty Industries, Francis Affotey Mensah disclosed that Liberty Industries, as a Ghanaian alcoholic beverage manufacturing company, employs over 300 workers, most of whom are youth from Teshie and Nungua, all suburbs of Accra.

“We have refused to mechanize to a certain extent so that manpower comes in. This allows us to employ as many people as possible,” he said.

After the presentation, a durbar was organized in Nungua by Liberty Industries to honour the boxer for his victory. A host of celebrities like actor Lil Wayne, Kalybos, Baba Spirit and Ayittey Powers were there to celebrate the IBF World Lightweight Champion as well.
