Liberty Professionals boosted their survival hopes with a lone goal victory over Edubiase United in their Week 21 clash of the 2012/2013 Premier League on Saturday at the Sly Tetteh Stadium, Dansoman.
Midfielder Kennedy Ashia scored the only goal of the match on 32 minutes to hand the homers the maximum point.
The win however did not come on a silver platter as the hosts had to sweat for the result they so badly needed to cushion their safety hopes.
Liberty got off well with Ashia and Kwame Boahene, both members of the Black Satellites squad that won silver at the recent African Youth Championship in Algeria making their presence felt.
On 32 minutes, Ashia broke the deadlock from a free-kick with a shot that beat Edubiase goalie Eric Nii Baah, for what turned out to be the only goal of the match.
The visitors responded with Asiedu Attobrah leading raids upfront, but found the Liberty rear a mountain too tall to climb.
On 70 minutes, Attobrah weaved his way through the Liberty backline but his goal bound shot was no threat for Liberty goalie Daniel Agyei.
In the closing stages, Attobrah again found himself in a good position to level matters but his shot went off to the relief of the homers.
Liberty now occupy the 11th position, a place below Edubiase despite both teams having 27 points apiece.
