Liberty squeeze past an inert Hasaacas

Accra, Nov 22, GNA - Liberty Professionals, in a last ditch effort to qualify for the lucrative end of season Coca Cola Top four competition beat visiting Sekondi Hasaacas by a lone goal in their 28th week KinaPharma Premier League match played at the Accra Sports Stadium on Saturday.

The win moved Liberty to fourth place, a point ahead of Berekum Arsenals who have a game in hand against B A United on Sunday.

In an encounter where the visitors gave a good account of themselves but were let down by the abysmal performance of the strikers, who wasted many scoring chances, especially in the first half.

But Liberty gradually warmed themselves into the game with quick counter attacks from the right wing where William Tiero causing a lot of problems to the well-knitted back line of Hasaacas.

The Dansoman lads had a good opportunity to take the lead in the 22nd minute when a hard-pressed defender of Hasaacas handled the ball in the box for Referee Christie Tetteh from Mampong to point to the spot.

Unfortunately, Asamoah Gyan, Liberty's leading goal scorer for the season with 11 goals to his credit could not maintain his composure and fired the ball wide off the mark.

Hasaacas pushed forward but as it has been all day, their strikers failed them when it came to the crunch with some dreadful shooting.

In the second half, Liberty started the stronger side and they pressed for the leader in the early stages of the game, which came their way in the 55th minute when rising star, Eric Bekoe tapped in a cross from Tierro.

The goal scorer then gave way to Alfred Nii Larbi in the 57th minute. In the 71st minute, James Dissiremah, who had just come on for injured Asamoah Gyan wasted an open scoring chance when he failed to connect a cross from Tierro with goalkeeper Michael Ewussie in post already beaten. Even though the Sekondi lads made some substitutions to add more bit to their attack, the equaliser failed to come.

Hasaacas put in a last minute attempt to get a point from the game and they came close in the 75th minute when substitute Enoch Amoafu speculative grounder missed the post by inches.
