Accra, May 3, GNA - Liberty Professionals fought relentlessly to gain an equalizer in their 2-2 drawn game against Sporting Mirrenin their Glo Premier League match at the Ohene Djan Stadium in a late kick-off on Sunday.
Liberty fell back twice and required an individual effort from Latif Salifu to pick the needed point in the game, which marks the beginning of the second round of the Glo Premiership. Mirren's Moses Andoh shot his side into action under a minute when he initiated a solo move that took him to the Liberty penalty area. With goalkeeper Yaw Berko committed, the former Accra Hearts of Oak's player hit the side of the net leaving the host off the hook.
Liberty from then held on to possession with a goal appearing in sight with every move of theirs whilst Mirren broke against the run of play and invaded the former's penalty area. An in-swing was sent in and with the host rear in tatters Maxwell Mensah attempted a clearance, which rather landed into his own net to send Mirren in front. Latif was however around to level up for Liberty seven minutes on when he controlled well a pass from the middle, dribbled once, survived a crunch tackle and sent a grounder that beat goalkeeper Lugard Tetteh with three defenders dotted in the area.
The game from then came alive with action tilting from each half to the other and with chances split, it was Mirren's exceptional skipper, Frank Boateng who restored his side's lead in 32 minutes with a powerful drive from the right flank just outside the box. Andoh had just fluffed a sparkling chance and the Liberty defence staged a clearance, which could only travel as far as the talented captain who sliced deep from an amazing angle for the lead. Enterprising Latif was on target to grab a brace just two minutes before the half when he profited from a defensive mix-up to give Liberty a point at home. Both teams resumed the second half in search of another goal which failed to yield any dividend.
