Social media users have disputed the assertion by Sammi Awuku, Director General of the National Lottery Authority (NLA), that the government has not yet began implementing the 10% betting tax deduction.
Some individuals involved in betting claim that the deduction has already started, as they have noticed it in their earnings, contradicting Awuku's statement.
Others have urged the NLA Director-General to verify with the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) whether the 10% betting tax has indeed not been implemented.
Users on X (formerly Twitter) are clearly upset with Awuku's claims, labeling them as lies intended to protect the government from criticism.
Meanwhile, the GRA and the Ministry of Finance have yet to confirm whether the betting tax deduction has started.
What Sammi Awuku said:
Awuku stated that the NLA has had meetings with the Ministry of Finance and the GRA regarding the collection of the betting tax, but no progress has been made.
In an interview with Oyerepa TV, Awuku said, "We have not been able to collect even a cedi. They informed me that as the Director General of the NLA, we are supposed to collect it, but I have not been able to do so because the framework is difficult. We don’t deduct the 10% from betting earnings.
"We have had discussions with the GRA and the Ministry of Finance on the modalities. The truth is we didn’t know them; we just licensed them three weeks ago, and it is estimated that there are over 380 illegal operators who are still unknown."

So the one that they've been dedicating is it Kwame Nkrumah who deducts it? What do these people in government take us for? If nothing at all ,most of these people who bet are youth who one way or the other have been to school.
