Lions Coach Quits

The head coach of Kpando Heart of Lions, Archibald Lamptey a.k.a. Zagalo has resigned as the coach of the team for what he described as lack of peaceful working atmosphere. A copy of his resignation letter was not immediately available to Space Sports.

In a chat with the President and the bankroller of the Club, Victor Ahiakpor to ascertain the truth of the matter, he responded in the affirmative and said he was utterly dismayed at the behaviour of the coach. Mr Akpene Ahiakpor said the coach refused to travel to Kpando to play their last match against Hassacas without any reason. He revealed that his management has provided the coach with all the logistics and support needed for him to deliver.

According to the president, the team has young and talented players and wondered why the coach has failed to develop any technical pattern which must be strictly adhered to. He said he had not fired the coach because of certain considerations.

When questioned if the resignation of the coach is going to affect the performance of the team, he said it is rather going to strengthen the team. “The foundation of the team remains unshaken with his exit”, he stressed. He hinted that he has almost completed a deal with a renowned coach to take over the club at the end of the first season.

Heart of Lions has a chequered history of hiring top coaches. Notable among them are former Goldfields former coach, Van der Plyum, Coach Hene, E.K. Afranie and the current coach of Hearts of Oak, Herbert Addo.

Archibald Lamptey was the assistant coach of Accra Hearts of Oak between 1998 and 2002. He became the head coach of Lions in 2002.
