Lions hold Hearts

Accra, June 4, GNA - The troubles of Accra Hearts of Oak seem not to be far from over as they continue to record poor results in the ongoing Onetouch Premiership.

Playing at the Ohene Djan Stadium against Kpando Heart of Lions in an outstanding league game on Wednesday, the Phobians were held to a one all draw game by the visitors attracting anger and disappointment from their teeming supporters.

Hearts opened the scores in the 18th minute, through Eric Gawu who picked a pass from Kweku Essien near the goal area of Lions to deliver a perfect volley over keeper Mozart Adjetey who was off his mark. Hearts held on to the lead for the greater part of the game but saw it cancelled in the 53rd minute from the foot of Emmanuel Banahene. In an aerial tussle from Robert Annan's cross, Banahene rose above Hearts keeper Laud Quartey to head home the equalizer, after the goalie fumbled to make a first time grab of the ball and watched in agony as the ball rolled into the net for the equalizer.

Three minutes on, the Phobians had a perfect opportunity to take the lead again when Ekow Ghansah dribbled past John Boye with a resultant curler but Adjetey was equal to the task to save his side. The Phobians however lost their steam in the last quarter as their stamina became suspect whilst the lads from Kpando had greater possession of the game and subjected the home team to intense pressure. The pressure nearly paid off for Lions when, in the 82nd minute, Addo Addoquaye who was well placed in the vital area of Hearts rather blasted off a perfect opportunity to deny his side the lead. Lions ensured their dominance throughout the last quarter of the game and were only unlucky to have taken the lead with the Phobian fans cursing referee A.A. Alhassan and his men for letting them down.
