Lipton bi-monthly golf: B.B.K. Ayivor wins first of 2011

*B. B. K. Ayivor of the Achimota Golf Club secured his first ever win at the Tema Country Golf Club by authoritatively beating the field of competition at last Saturday’s Lipton bi-monthly golf tournament. It was the very first Lipton bi-monthly medal of the year and 9th overall under the sponsorship of the Unilever Ghana brand. Mr. Ayivor returned a net of 67 to win the men’s competition by a distance from runner-up Pierre Coussey who returned 72 net. *

Afterwards, he could only marvel at what was truly an exceptional performance. “Winning is not my primary aim, I play golf as an exercise so results don’t matter to me as far as I enjoy the game. I don’t know what happened but today everything went well and I think the one who took 2ndposition was way behind. It’s been a wonderful day and I am glad,” B.B.K. Ayivor told *SportsInGhana.com* moments after receiving his trophy prize from the Lipton sponsors.

Francis Darko Afoani, Assistant Brand Manager, Foods of the Unilever sponsors thanked everyone for coming especially when the weather wasn’t the best at the beginning of the day. He pledged Lipton’s continued support for the competition amid revealing the plan by his outfit to invite and bring on board more young men to play golf.

“Thanks everyone for coming because this morning when I was leaving the house the weather was not encouraging at all. I was amazed at the passion and competition put up by the golfers despite the weather,” Mr. Afoani said in his closing remarks on the tournament which gave out prizes to the top 4 ladies and top 6 in the men’s field.

Celebrity Golf Club of Sakumono Captain Pierre Coussey also took home a trophy for finishing 2nd, same as outgoing Tema Captain Leonard Kweku Okyere and Issa Adam who both returned net 73 to take 3rd and 4th respectively. Tied on 74 net apiece, 5th Alfred Baku and 6th Ako Odotei also took home souvenirs as prizes.

Evergreen Ama Morgan returned 71 net to win the ladies’ category, beating Esther Antwi, Bridgette Harrington and Y.K. Sarfo-Debrah into 2nd, 3rd and 4 th in that order. Esther Antwi and Bridgette Harrington who returned nets 75 and 77 respectively also took home trophy prizes whilst Y.K. Sarfo-Debrah who shot to a net of 78 received a Lipton souvenir.

Leonard Kweku Okyere, outgoing Captain of the host club expressed appreciation to Lipton for their continued support and sponsorship. He indicated that Lipton have been faithful to the Tema Country Golf Club and have stuck with them even in difficult times.

The sponsors reaffirmed their commitment to the Tema Country Golf Club, promising to maintain the support for a long time to come. “We promise to continue our sponsorship because we like the relationship. I urge you to continue to drink Lipton and remember that Lipton refreshes your mind and keeps flowing from nature,” Francis Afoani stated.
