Liquid Sports Ghana to hold maiden olympics seminar

Liquid Sports Ghana is set to hold the first of its kind Olympism themed seminar dubbed “Making it Happen” to mentor students.

The maiden edition will be held at the Accra Academy Senior High School on Thursday, 10th March, 2016.

The Guinness Ghana sponsored 2-hour programme, features three national sports icons namely 1992 Olympic Games bronze medalist, Nii Odartey Lamptey, Patrick Yaw Obeng (2015 All Africa Games double silver medalist) and taekwondo player Terrance Tetteh Asare, who will share their career and life experiences with the students.

In addition, the Director of Sports at the University of Ghana Legon (UG), Dr. Bella Bello Bitugu, will bring his rich experience to bare on the programme by educating the students about UG’s sports policy and career paths for sportsmen/women.

Consistent with its aim of promoting the spirit of Olympism among students, there will be separate presentations by the Brazil and Japan Embassies on the upcoming Rio 2016 Olympic Games and Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

Making it Happen comes months after liquidsportsghana.com successfully introduced the first ever Ghana athlete of the year award dubbed, “Liquid Sports Ghana-Ethiopian Airlines Athlete of the Year award on 29th January, 2016.

The Ghanaian-based website aims at promoting sports and using sports as a development tool. Theme Themed on the philosophy of Olympism as a way of life, “Making it Happen” aims to exalt and combine in a balanced whole the qualities of body, will and mind.

Blending sport with culture and education, ‘Making it Happen’ seeks to create a way of life based on the joy found in effort, the educational value of good example and respect for universal fundamental ethical principles.

The programme consists of presentations, video presentations, a question and answer and photo shoot sessions. Background Liquid Sports Ghana is a Ghanaian-based website which aims at promoting sports and using sports as a development tool.

The website was established in March, 2012, to cater for the growing need to provide quality coverage of Ghana sports with particular emphasis on less funded sports.

The site seeks to bridge the gap in coverage of Ghana sports by providing documentaries, stories and features on the general issues affecting sports and creating role models for the youth.

Its most recent project involved partnering Ethiopian Airlines to organise the first ever Ghana athlete of the year award dubbed, ‘Liquid Sports Ghana Athlete of the Year Award which was won by Ghanaian athletes John Ampomah and Janet Amponsah.

“As part of our vision to use sports as a tool for development, we helped promote and assisted with the organisation of the first ever Dan-deVan National Paralympic Games on 29th November and the subsequent celebration of World Disability Day on 3rd December, 2015. Liquid Sports Ghana also partnered the Ghana Athletics Association and Ethiopian Airlines to provide coverage of the 2015 IAAF World Championships in Beijing-China. We secured a sponsorship package with Lucozade Energy drink to cover the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa.
