Liverpool and Chelsea are set to fight it out to determine the future of Marseille’s Ghanaian winger Andre Ayew in the near future as his contract runs out in June.

The Ghana international is set to leave the club in January with Marseille risking him leaving on a free transfer in June as reports in France claim that it’s virtually assured he will leave Ligue 1.

Despite his club initially fighting tooth and nail to get him to put pen to paper on a new deal it would appear that they have now resigned themselves to losing him and, if they can’t sell him in January, are happy to let him go for free next summer.

Ayew, who performed admirably for Ghana at the World Cup in Brazil, has long been on the radar at both Anfield and Stamford Bridge and, with him unlikely to cost very much at all, could be in line for a big move to the Premier League.

Just where it is that he will end up remains to be seen, with Jose Mourinho already having a surplus of wingers on his books and Brendan Rodgers already having similar wide players in Raheem Sterling and Adam Lallana.

Following the sale of Luis Suarez Liverpool attracted a host of attacking players to their cause, and yet their current campaign has stalled somewhat. If the situation remains the same in January then perhaps Ayew’s signature will once again be sought.
