Ghana U23 assistant coach Michael Osei has strongly defended their decision of dropping locally-based players for foreign-based players in their recent games.

He believes the home-based players are currently not active and fit enough to represent the club at the tournament following the absence of domestic football in Ghana.

Speaking to Atinka sports, Former Asante Kotoko midfielder said ”The teams we are going to face are active and have prepared for more than five(5) months, so we can’t gamble and use our local-based players for such international tournament, no way,”

”In any case, we didn’t use the locally-based players in any of our past matches, Togo, Gabon and Algeria.

”We didn’t use them, the foreign-based players played all these matches because they are active, I don’t see the qualms about this look is not easy as people see it, If you’ve been a footballer before, you will understand we can’t use the locally-based players for such international tournament.” He ended.

The 2019 Caf U23 Cup of Nations tournament starts on 8th November 2019 and ends on 22nd November, 2019 in Egypt.
