Ghana’s sprint queen, Vida Anim has tipped youth sprinter, Janet Amponsah as the new face of Ghana’s sprint events.

Anim has been Ghana’s number one in both 100 and 200 meters for close to a decade now.

But the 28-year-old who failed to make it to the semi final at the London Olympic Games on Monday after finishing 8th in Heat 2 says there is a lot of hope for Ghana in the ensuing competitions.

According to the fastest African woman in 2006, Janet Amponsah will not in a too distant future assume the accolade as Ghana and Africa’s sprint Queen.

Amponsah won gold in both 100 and 200 meters at the inaugural West Africa Junior Athletics championship earlier this year and followed up with her personal best in 200 meters after finishing 5th at the world junior championship in Barcelona last month with a time of 23.41 seconds.

“Janet Amponsah is the next big thing because her performance at the IAAF world junior athletics championship was fantastic.

“All she needs now are effective training and more competitions and I think that will mould her to take over as the new sprint Queen in Ghana and on the continent,” Anim said.
