Mr. Elvis Adjei-Baah, Public Relations Officer of the Ministry of Youth and Sports has allayed fears that Ghana, would not be ready to host the 2018 Africa Women’s Cup Of Nations(AWCON).

Ghana is scheduled to host the AWCON in November this year, but a lot of doubts have been raised on the country’s preparedness to host the rest of the continent in the elite women football competition.

However, Mr Adjei-Baah in an interview with the GNA Sports said, the government has invested a lot in making sure that Ghana host one of the best championships ever in the history of African Women football.

“Government has already committed resources, I mean the needed funds that would ensure that we have a successful hosting of the tournament. Thankfully, the monies have hit the Ministries account and some works have already started and as I speak to you,” he said.

He gave the assurance that all facilities to be used for the championship would be ready before the start of the event.

“Green grass technology has also started working on the pitches that would be used for the tournament including; EL-Wak Stadium, Accra Sports Stadium, Presec pitch, Robert Mensah Sports Stadium in Cape Coast, Cape Coast Stadium and possibly Ndoum Sports Stadium".

“Works would be done on all these pitches hopefully within three months, the LOC has also been given some funds to start work with regards to various logistics they would need to procure to help embrace the tournament.”

Mr Adjei-Baah noted that the LOC has lined up programmes, which would be rolled out soon in an attempt to increase the publicity of the championship.

“We are starting a mass media campaign to ensure the necessary publicity is given,” he added.
