Football fans in the Wa Municipality will be offered a special treatment on Sunday when their idol club, Wa All Stars, renew their rivalry with Berekum Chelsea in an MTN FA Cup quarter-final clash.
While All Stars hammered Chelsea 3-0 during a Week 18 Premier League match at Wa, Chelsea managed a narrow 1-0 victory over All Stars at Berekum in the first round.
Sunday’s clash at the Malik Jabir stadium, therefore, offers both teams an opportunity to establish their superiority over the other. But considering that the MTN FA Cup is a different ball game altogether, this all-premiership affair looks quite dicey.
With Stephen Sarfo, Nicholas Opoku and David Asare in the thick of affairs for Berekum Chelsea, All Stars will have a lot to worry about even at home. However, with home support, players such as Paul De Vires, Sadiq Alhassan, Samuel Atta Mensah and Kofi Yeboah have a slight edge to advance to the semi-finals of the MTN FA Cup.
The clash between Hearts of Oak and Danbort FC at the Accra Stadium will be another hot spot that will draw many fans as the 10-time champions seek to sacrifice their less-fancied Nungua neighbours.
But having come this far in their quest to prove their worth in the MTN FA Cup competition, one can trust the Division One side Danbort to aim at an upset and inch closer to the title.
Incidentally, Danbort face Hearts at a time the Phobians are gradually putting the pieces together in their fight for the Ghana Premier League title. Hearts’ successive victories over Berekum Chelsea and Tema Youth in Accra amply testify their good form, with Winful Cobinnah, Thomas Abbey, Patrick Razak, Kwame Kizito, Samudeen Ibrahim and others looking set to progress to the next stage of the competition.
At the T&A Park at Tarkwa, Medeama SC and former Premier League side, Amidaus Professionals, will also sort things out for one of the semi-final slots.
Coach Evans Adotey has given an assurance that Medeama have set their eyes on the MTN?FA Cup trophy for the third time, hence their preparedness to eliminate Amidaus Professionals on Sunday.
“We will certainly win on Sunday to make a strong case for the MTN FA Cup trophy which has become so attractive now,” he stated.
Following the motor accident involving players and officials of Kumasi Asante Kotoko two weeks ago, their match against Nea Salamina at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi has been put on hold.
