MTN launches Text to Go 2010 world cup South Africa promotion

Accra, Aug 27, GNA - MTN, a leading mobile telecommunication network in the country, on Thursday launched the 2010 FIFA World Cup dubbed "TXT TO GO Promotion", and designed to give subscribers the opportunity to win one FIFA VIP package every week to enable them to watch the football feat at first hand in South Africa.

Mr Goerge Andah, Maeketing Officer of MTN, said 'Unity' was chosen as the theme for the event, adding that through the tournament MTN would unite communities, football fans, workers, employees, emerging markets, and the world, as the company urges all to go and be part of the FIFA 2010 game.

He said apart from the FIFA VIP Packages, over the next 100 days MTN would give back over eight million worth of prizes, made up of cash, cars, loads of MTN airtime and other consolation prizes enough to go round all customers.

Mr Andah said there are also a brand new KIA Sorento 4 x 4 weekly from Rana Motors, exclusive VIP packages on MTN-sponsored FIFA 2010 world cup, and three separate one hundred Ghana cedis grand prize jackpots.

He said MTN would go the extra mile to engage customers by ensuring that every day 31 people will win a prize, every week one subscriber will drive away a brand new Kia Sorento from Rana Motors and another will be getting ready to go to South Africa to enjoy the ultimate VIP treat.

He said to participate in the 'Text to go 2010', MTN PAYG subscribers should send GO to short code 2010 to gain points. Every text to the 2010 short code prompts another logical response, and with each response customers get more points and have an increased chance of winning one of the great prizes at stake.

"Personalised confirmatory SMS responses are sent back to the customer to acknowledge entry and state the points they have acquired," he said, adding that each point is an entry into a draw to win the daily and monthly prizes.

He said it was a well-known fact that over half of all mobile phone users in Ghana were using MTN, and that this number will continue to grow as "we show others the way".

He urged customers to join the fun and excitement and win the fantastic prizes that await them.

Nii Nortey Dua, Deputy Minister for Youth and Sports who kicked a ball into the net to launch the promotion, urged Ghanaians and supporters' unions to do well to make the 2010 World Cup tournament in South Africa a success.
