Acting Chief Marketing Officer of Ghana’s largest telecommunication network MTN, Guido Sopiimeh, has promised that the telecommunication giant will spend over three million cedis on sports development in Ghana in 2018.
He said the amount does not only cover the FA Cup competition but also covers other clubs that MTN sponsors.
He explained that MTN is investing an amount of one hundred and forty-four million dollars in its network to enhance the quality of service, especially in the rural areas since the FA Cup is played across the length and breadth of the country.
At the seventh edition of the MTN FA Cup awards in Accra, Mr Guido Sopiimeh noted that winning and having trophies in sports are great but sports as a discipline teaches an individual to give his best, hence MTN’s association with the FA Cup.
“Awards are a way to encourage good performers and inculcate the competitive spirit, but beyond this, we also award people to give due regard to our values and morals.”
The MTN FA Cup is to honour outstanding and deserving players, coaches, match officials and other significant individuals.
Accra Hearts of Oak midfielder Winful Cobbinah beat off competition from Asante Kotoko's Saddick Adams and Isaac Amoah from Amidaus Professionals to win the most valuable player in 2017.
Other award winners on the night were former Kotoko coach, Steve Pollack who won Best Coach of the year whiles Accra Hearts of Oak fans were adjudged the Supporters Group of the Year and Medeama SC center-back Ibrahim Yaro was named the best defender of the competition.
