Management Committee chairman of the Black Maidens of Ghana, Augustine Asante, has promised that the team will not wear oversized jerseys for matches again.
The female national U-17 team had to use scissors to cut oversized jerseys to suit for their World Cup qualifier against Morocco.
It was embarrassing, to say the least according to Mr. Augustine Asante, but he has promised what the team wore for that game was the last.
He also revealed that the female national teams do not have a kit sponsor.
“It is unfortunate. Puma is the Ghana Football Association (GFA’s) kit sponsor. Unfortunately, they do not sponsor the women’s teams. They sponsor the Black Stars, so, jerseys that are sent to the FA are meant for the men, big men for that matter; the small (jerseys) ones among them are given to the women,” he told Accra-based Class FM.
Mr. Augustine Asante also revealed that officials of the team were not aware that the jerseys for the team were big.
“The one they used on Saturday was given to the team some few days before the match, and we didn’t know they were so large for the girls; that is why we used them. But when we get them early and there is any work to be done on them, we do that. It is unfortunate last Saturday we couldn’t get the jerseys to work on them and it is not going to happen again,” he said.
The Black Maidens defeated the Moroccans 6-0 at the Accra Sports Stadium having already beaten them 4-0 in Rabat a fortnight ago – winning the tie 10-0 on aggregate.
