Black Stars forward Abdul Majeed Waris has missed out on the annual Marc Vivian Foe award designated for the best performing African players in the French Ligue I.

The FC Lorient striker has been beaten to the award by Moroccan Soufiane Boufal despite his impressive debut season with his French side.

The Ghanaian arrived in France midway through the season but his impressive return of 13 goals in 25 appearances earned him nomination for the annual France based African best player award.

OSC Lille’s Soufiane Boufal eased his way to the award with 12 odd strikes in an inconsistent Lille side. The Moroccan is joined in the podium by North African brother Rachid Ghezzal from Olympic Lyonnais while Senegal Cheikh Ndoye capped his impressive season with SCO Angers with the bronze medal.

Waris joined FC Lorient from Turkish Super Ligue side Trabzonspor but has since found his shooting boots in France with a goal every two games.

The injury ravaged forward was on course to equaling his best ever return of 23 goals in a single season but recurrent injuries hampered his time on the pitch.
