Malawi stand no chance in Blatyre: Appiah

Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah won’t budge to suggestions his side face elimination by lowly regarded Malawi from the race to next year’s Cup of African Nations.

Quite below the expectations of Ghanaians that the Black Stars were going to wallop largely unknown Flames, Appiah’s men had to settle for the two goals of Christian Atsu and Tony Annan as Ghana take a 2-0 lead into the second leg in Malawi come next month.

Kwesi Appiah however is haling the result which he says came against a very good side and says his the Malawians will stand no chance against his charges in the second leg.

“Gone are the days when you can say this team can’t play or you are going to beat that team. That’s no longer the case and I made my players aware not to underrate the Malawians,” said Appiah after the friendly loss to Liberia.

“Everybody saw how tactically disciplined they were in the game, they played very well and could have even scored. That’s why we must be happy to have won so comfortably and I am sure we can go there to do a lot better,” Appiah stated to reporters.

Meanwhile, Malawi coach, Kinnah Phiri, continue sto talk tough on his team’s arrival in Blantyre, vowing to lead the Flames to eliminate the Black Stars in the second leg in October. “It’s not over yet. They will come here and we know how we conceded those two goals. The story is not finished, it’s not done and dusted. So it is not a problem,” Phiri told reporters.
