French footballer Benjamin Mendy will be paid a huge percentage of his £11 million wages owed by his former club, Manchester City, after a hearing at the Manchester Employment Tribunal.

According to the UK newspaper, The Mirror, Mendy won the majority of his £11m claim against Manchester City.

Employment Judge Joanne Dunlop at the Manchester Employment Tribunal elaborated on the ruling.

“[Mendy is] entitled to recover some, but not all, of the sums claimed. While Mendy was not in custody, he was ready and willing to work and was prevented from doing so due to circumstances that were unavoidable or involuntary on his part.

"In those circumstances, and absent any authorisation in the contract for the employer to withhold pay, he was entitled to be paid,” the Judge said.

The FC Lorient defender was suspended from playing football in August 2021 after he was arrested by the police for allegations of sex offences, including rape.

After he was remanded into custody for five months, Manchester City withheld his salary until his contract ended in June 2023.

However, in January 2023, the defender was cleared of six counts of rape as well as sexual assault following trial proceedings that lasted several months.
