Manya Krobo District lifts trophy

Kukurantumi, (E/R), Aug. 7, GNA - Manya Krobo District defeated New Abirem District 3-1 on penalties to lift the boys soccer trophy at this year's Eastern Regional Under 17 Basic Schools Inter Districts Sports Festival, which ended at Kukurantumi. The two sides settled for a goalless drawn game at the end of full time.

Birim South Municipal beat Manya Krobo District 12-11 to lift the girls' netball trophy. In the table tennis event, Akuapem South Municipality had 56 points to place first in the girls division, West Akim District came second with 51 points with Birim North District and Akuapem North District sharing the third position with 48 points each. In the boys division, Manya Krobo District came first with 69 points followed by Akuapem South Municipal at the second position with 59 points and Birim North District taking the third position with 53 points.

In the Athletic events, James Awuah of Kwahu South District threw 30.90 meters to win the first place in the boys Javelin followed by Quanoo Solomon of Kwahu West District with a throw of 30.60 meters to place second while Samuel Twum of Kwahu North District threw 30.55 meters to place third.

In shot put, Yohannes Teye of Manya Krobo District threw 9.05 meters to place first with Michael Addo of Kwahu North District making a throw of 8.90 meters to place second while Prince Kissiedu of Suhum-Kraboa-Coaltar District threw 8.75 meters to place third. In triple jump, John Batsa of East Akim District made a lip 10.75 meters to place first, Sangnipor Daniels of Akuapem South District followed in second position with a lip of 10.72 meters to place second and Samuel Nti of Birim South District jumping 19.65 to place third. In the Girls Javelin, Doris Owusuwa of Birim North District threw 24.84 meters to place first, Evelyn Amanor of Manya Krobo District threw 22.27 meters to place second with Juliet Assan of Birim South District throwing 21.40 meters to place third.

Adobea Pabi of Akuapem North District threw 9.20 meters to place first in the girls shot put, Doris Owusu of Birim North District threw 8.70metres to place second while Kate Mihaye of Akuapem North also threw 8.50 meters to place third.

In the girls' triple jump, Bernice Kwakyewaa of New Juaben District jumped 9.18 meters to place first, Mercy Boadiwa of Birim North District made it with a jump of 9.15 meters to place second and Joyce Oye of Akuapem North District jumping 9.04 meters to place third. In the track events, Emmanuel Dasor of Manya Krobo District won the boys 200 meters race with a time of 25.66 seconds, Richard Tweneboah of Akuapem South District came second with a time of 25.94 seconds and Bismarck Yeboah came third with a time of 26.02 seconds. Kwame Evans of Manya Krobo District won the 800 meters race with a time of two minutes 10.16 seconds followed by Solomon Asiedu of Kwahu West District at the second position with a time of two minutes 10.90 seconds and Charles Sasu of Kwahu South District coming third with a time of 02 minutes 11.82 seconds

In the girls division, Jennifer Sarpoma of Atiwa District won the first place in the 200 meters race with a time of 29.07 seconds, Rose Agyeiwah of Kwahu West District came second with a time of 29.65 seconds and Alimatu Lade of East Akim District came third with a time of 30.00 seconds.

Mrs Akosua Takyiwah Adu, Acting Regional Director of Education, in a closing remark read on her behalf said sports teaches the youth on to succeed in life through determination and therefore urged the athletics to translate their prowess into their normal life style and assured them that they would always succeed. 07 Aug. 08
