Marine Sticks of Ghana Navy, with all their predicament including lack of equipment, team manager and faded outfit, beat Kingsticks 3-0 in their 6th week Pepsi hockey league match at the National Hockey Pitch in Accra on Saturday. The ?Seaformers? fought for honours and deservedly had the opener through Patrick Taylor in the 14th minutes.
Kingsticks, with their youthful players recently promoted from various juvenile teams, accepted the challenge and made some incursions into their opponents? vital area but could not find the net to end the first half. The final half resumed with both sides probing for goals but again it was Edward Oblie of Marine Sticks who made it 2-0 for his side in the 54th minutes. Patrick Taylor sealed the doom of King sticks four minutes later to bring the final score to 3-0.
Defending champions, Exchequers of Bank of Ghana, continued their winning spree, beating Golden Sticks of GCB Limited 4-1.
It was Golden Sticks who drew the first blood in the 32nd minute from a Jacob Sowah hack-hand drive to make them first half leaders. Exchequers came back more strong in the second half to save their dented image and were rewarded on the 38th minute when ?Bombardier? Alfred Armah hit the woodwork from a penalty corner.
The Africa bronze medallists fielding Eddie Odametey, longest playing player of the team and general captain of the national team, then changed their goalkeeper, Bright Dzokoto, for Jonas Tetteh after they took the lead in the 45th minute, also from a penalty corner by Paul Aggrey.
Daniel Lamptey put Golden Sticks beyond recovery in the 55th minute with William Cudjoe sealing it at 4-1 three minutes later.
CEPS also beat Multi-Stix 3-2 in their match to maintain their second position on the league table. It was Kwesi Aiduonu, John Bress, SWAG hockey plyer for last year, and Mustapha Dadzie who scored for their side while Eric Mainoo scored both goals for Multi- Stix. Extinguishers of Fire Service also whitewashed veterans 5-0. It was Mark Odortoh (14th), Edward Anum (24th), Mark Sena (38th), Isaac Okoe-Aryee (52nd) and Edward Mensah (56th) who scored for Fire. In the only ladies match, Reformers of Prisons beat Africa Silver Medallists, Extinguishers, of Fire Service 1-0 to dent their image in their well-thrilled encounter. Rosemond Abrokwah who played a great game crowned her effort with a 45th minute goal to force the bitter pill down the opponents throat.
