Match fixing in Bofoakwa/Union Rovers Division One League game

A section of players of former Ghana Premier League side Tano Bofoakwa have come out to allege that their side’s Division One League match at Techiman on Sunday against Union Rovers was fixed by the management of the club.

According to the players, they were told just 5 minutes before the end of the game at the back of the goalpost by the management that they should lose the match to the home team which is Rovers to prevent them from relegation to Division Two. Bofoakwa who have already survived relegation, consequently lost the game 2-0.

What broke the camel’s back to bring the cat out of the bag is that the players claim they were not given any pesewa from the sold match adding to their already dissatisfaction over non-payment of their salaries for almost 3 months. They have vowed to boycott Bofoakwa’s next two matches.

The big question emanating from this case is whether the Division One Board led by Mr Ntow Fianko as well as the GFA’s Disciplinary Committee will ask for evidence before they follow this case?

This is because Glo Ghana Premier League side Kessben FC recently suspended 5 of their players at the pretext of gross insurbodination just a day after losing 5-1 to New Effiduase at their own background. Our FA has yet to conduct any investigation into that match, the reality  and the actual cause of the players’ suspension.

Many football enthusiasts believe that the practice that one always has to provide evidence before action taken is killing our game. If they need evidence about this case they should approach some of the  Bofoakwa players who are willing to tell the truth.

Three years ago when Abedi Pele’s Nania FC and others were involved in match fixing, they were punished. Our football leaders must be vigilant and GFA President Kwesi Nyantakyi will be in line for serious questions by the press when he arrives in Sunyani on Tuesday.
